Somatic Experiencing

What is Somatic Experiencing Therapy?

  • Are you experiencing intrusive thoughts, overwhelm, decision paralysis, or do you find yourself "spiraling?" You may be stuck in freeze mode.
  • Do you find yourself being "the strong one" for others, but struggling to ask for help or share your own needs? You may be stuck in fight mode.
  • Do you find yourself motivated to start something new, then shutting down? You may be stuck in collapse.
  • Do you find yourself trapped between longing for and running away from connection? You may be stuck in flight.

Somatic Experiencing offers you the ability to ease into distressing content without talking extensively about the past, reliving it in any way, or feeling even more overwhelmed. Through co-regulation (meaning I am privileged to witness , guide, and hold space for you), and a partnership with the nervous system, Somatic Experiencing incorporates gentle movement , breathwork, sound, and mindfulness of trauma -related sensations and emotions to help you release stored trauma and become embodied and liberated.  Unlike traditional talk therapy, which focuses on narrative content, Somatic Experiencing is a bottom up approach to therapy, meaning the focus is on how your body is showing up in the here and now (although there is some talking involved too!) Through accessing the nervous system's 5 channels of stored trauma (sensations, images, behaviors, affect, and meaning), we will safely explore and gently ease into your felt sense of difficult experiences to release tension, restore balance, and foster trust in the wisdom of the body.

How Somatic Experiencing can help

  • Unlock the Power of Now - SE is based on the principle of titration (meaning staying curious to and present with small amounts of unease to release tension) which leads to pendulation ( the ability to seamless flow between states of hyperarousal and calm, thus fostering resilience, agency, and confidence).


  • Completion as Opposed to Repetition and Compulsion - If you find yourself engaging in repetitive  behaviors that bring limited relief, you may be glad to learn that Somatic Experiencing helps you release activation driving repetitive behaviors, thereby fostering liberation and enhanced control. Somatic Experiencing supports your nervous system to complete experiences that were thwarted by traumatic events. Through completion, you find closure, resolution,  and presence to help you live your life to the fullest.


  • Go with the Flow - SE helps bring awareness to where your nervous system got stuck. With practice and awareness, you will learn skills to break free of the cycles of fight/flight/freeze/collapse. Together, we will help you break free from cycles and live a life in alignment with your values and purpose.
